The efforts of peace-loving indigenes of Urhobo people of Aladja and the Ijaw indigenes of Ogbe- Ijaw near Warri in Delta State have been notched up with the successful participation of both parties in an inaugural event held in Udu, Delta State.
The Ogbe-Ijaw/Aladja Peace Vanguard began as an online effort by well-meaning youths of both communities who organized themselves virtually to prepare for physical peace talks among the people of both communities to end years of what they see as senseless internecine conflicts claiming the lives of innocent people and adding no value to their means of livelihoods.
Their dreams became reality on Sunday June 28, 2020 when the peace vanguard held its first ‘offline
meeting’ to actualize the peace-building efforts. The meeting was a culmination of weeks of brainstorming sessions by representatives of both communities on how best to engage one another without rancour and shirty confrontations.
The conveners of the peace meeting included (Peace) Ambassadors Enieghan Layefa, Victor Akemotubo, Aggreh Solomon and Governor Stanley. Useful deliberations were made and presented to the people of both communities who visibly elated at the prospects of lasting and sustained non-violent coexistence between the two communities.
